Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions about Spend, Solana, and USDC-on-Solana answered.

Getting Started

What is Spend?

Spend is a self-custody (or non-custodial) cryptocurrency wallet designed for managing your SOL and USDC-on-Solana tokens quickly and easily.

How does Tap to Pay work?

Tap to Pay allows you to use your Spend wallet just like a credit card. Simply tap your phone on a compatible merchant terminal to make a payment. Note that this feature only works with merchant terminals that support the Spend POS protocol.

What does "self-custody" mean?

It means you, and only you, have control over your private keys and your funds. We never have access to your wallet or assets.

What is Solana (SOL)?

Solana is a high-performance blockchain known for its incredibly fast transaction speeds and very low fees. SOL is its native cryptocurrency.

What is USDC-on-Solana?

USDC (Solana) is a stablecoin on the Solana blockchain, pegged 1-to-1 with the U.S. Dollar. It allows for fast and low-cost transactions while maintaining a stable value.

Is there a minimum deposit to use the wallet?

While there's no minimum USDC deposit, you need a small amount of SOL to cover the costs of setting up your accounts and performing transactions. Typically, having at least 0.003 SOL is sufficient to create your accounts and cover initial transaction fees.

Wallet Security

Where are my private keys stored?

Your private keys are encrypted and stored exclusively on your local device. They are never transmitted to us or any third party.

What happens if I lose my private key?

Your funds will be permanently and irreversibly lost. Because this is a self-custody wallet, we cannot help you recover them. This is why backing up your key is critical.

How should I back up my private key?

Write it down on paper and store it in multiple, secure, offline locations. Do not store it as a digital file, screenshot, or in a password manager.

What is the difference between a private key and a public address?

Your public address is like your bank account number; you share it to receive funds. Your private key is like your account password; it grants full access and must be kept secret.

Can I recover my wallet if I lose my device?

Yes, as long as you have backed up your private key, you can recover your wallet on a new device by importing the private key into the Spend app or another compatible Solana wallet app. Always ensure you keep your private key secure and never share it with anyone.

Transactions & Fees

Why do I need SOL in my wallet?

SOL is required for two main purposes: 1) To pay for network transaction fees (also known as "gas fees") for actions like sending USDC or closing your account. 2) To cover the one-time rent costs for creating your SOL and USDC accounts on the Solana blockchain.

How much are gas fees?

Gas fees on Solana are extremely low, typically 0.000005 SOL.

How fast are transactions?

Most transactions on Solana are confirmed in just a few seconds.

Can I reverse a transaction?

No. All transactions on the Solana blockchain are final and cannot be reversed or cancelled once confirmed. Always double-check the address and amount before sending.

What is a transaction hash (or TxID)?

A transaction hash is a unique identifier for your transaction on the blockchain. It acts as a digital receipt and can be used to verify transaction details on a block explorer.

Technical Details (Advanced)

What is an RPC node?

An RPC (Remote Procedure Call) node is a computer server that acts as a gateway between the Spend app and the Solana blockchain. It allows the app to read balances and broadcast transactions to the network.

Why would my balance not update?

This is typically due to a temporary delay in communication with the RPC node. Try pulling down on the home screen to refresh the balance manually.

What is a block explorer?

A block explorer is a website (like Solscan or Solana Explorer) that lets you view all public data on the blockchain, including transactions, wallets, and balances.

Do I need to worry about "rent"?

The Spend app automatically handles the process of paying the required deposit for your accounts using the SOL in your wallet. You don't need to manually calculate or manage these deposits. For clarity, this "rent" is more like a fully refundable deposit, minus a small 0.00005 SOL transaction fee. For reference, the deposit is 0.00089088 SOL to open a SOL account and 0.00203928 SOL to open a USDC account.

Privacy & Data

What personal information does Spend collect?

We believe in data minimization. We only collect data if you opt-in to push notifications, which includes your public wallet address and a Firebase device token. We never see your personal details or private keys.

Do you sell or share my data?

No. We do not sell, trade, or rent your information. Data is only shared with essential service providers like Google Firebase to make notifications possible, under strict data protection rules.

How do I delete my data from your servers?

Simply disable push notifications in the app's settings. This action automatically deletes your associated public address and notification token from our systems.

Support & Troubleshooting

I didn't receive a push notification for a transaction. Why?

First, check that notifications are enabled in both the Spend app settings and your phone's system settings. A weak internet connection can also cause delays.

Can support help if I get scammed or send funds to the wrong address?

Unfortunately, no. Due to the irreversible nature of blockchain and our self-custody model, we cannot recover funds or reverse transactions. Please be extremely careful.

How can I contact support?

For questions or issues related to the app's functionality, please email us at support@spendwallet.cc.

Why is it important to keep the Spend app updated?

Keeping the app updated ensures that you have the latest features, security patches, and performance improvements. We recommend enabling automatic updates or checking for updates regularly to ensure the best experience and security.
